Civil Society and Human Formation: Philosophy's Role in a Renewed Understanding of the Meaning of Education

COMIUCAP and ACU co-organized an International Conference on Civil Society and Human Formation: Philosophy's Role in a Renewed Understanding of the Meaning of Education. The event took place in Melbourne Campus of the Australian Catholic University (Melbourne, Australia), from 20-22 July, 2015. The local conveners were Professor Janis T. Ozolins (Chair) and Dr. Richard Colledge, assisted by the many competences of Mr. Fatih E. Tuncer.

The central question asked in this Regional Conference of COMIUCAP for Asia-Oceania was the Role of Philosophy for a renewed Understanding of Education in the formative process of individual Persons and of the Civil Society. Professional Philosophers and Educators interested in the Contributions of Philosophy (East and West) for Education, were invited and came to contribute and attend the Conference. Papers that qualify will be published under the auspices of COMIUCAP. Papers were asked on the following topics:

Religion and the Integral Formation of the Human Being Moral and Religious Education in a Secular Society Dialects of Tradition and Innovation in Education Asian Perspectives on Education in the Global Age Understanding the Human Person, East and West Education for Dialogue and Tolerance: The challenges of diversity Role of Market and State in Education Place of the Humanities and the Sciences in Education Education and the formation of Civil Society Eastern and Western Perspectives on Education Understanding the Complementarity of Church and State in Education Education and the Common Good • The Transmission of Culture as an Educational Aim • Conceptions of Civil Society and Its Formation • The Role of the Church in Civil Society.
